Portable Noise Generator

With the advanced capabilities of today’s signal level meters, it is now possible to have a low cost and portable test solution. Most signal level meters now offer a full SCAN or SPECTRUM mode. Some even have a normalization or reference mode. But when combined with the VNS-1000 Noise Generator, you now have a low-cost, portable test package capable of measuring the gain/loss, frequency response, and return loss from 5 to 1100MHz.

Many systems cannot afford a network analyzer or spectrum analyzer with a tracking generator.  With the advanced capabilities of today’s signal level meters, it is now possible to have a low cost and portable test solution. Most signal level meters now offer a full SCAN or SPECTRUM mode. Some even have a normalization or reference mode. But when combined with the VNS-1000 Noise Generator, you now have a low-cost, portable test package capable of measuring the gain/loss, frequency response, and return loss from 5 to 1100MHz.  

The VNSB-1000 is supplied with a calibrated mis-match at 18dB; other values are available.  This is used as a reference trace on the SLM.  Connect the unit to DUT (Devise Under Test.)  If all traces are below the calibrated reference line, DUT had greater than 18dB return loss.  If traces are over the reference line, DUT failed for return loss.
